Winnipeg vs. Toronto: Pay Attention to Local Real Estate News
One thing that drives me a little crazy is hearing a national real estate story and assuming it applies to Winnipeg.
A lot of the real estate news we hear is coming out of Toronto or Vancouver. Those are very different markets than ours.
Real estate is local. Very local.
Even saying “the Winnipeg market” can be a little too broad. A house in one neighbourhood or price range can have a completely different market than a house across the city. Condos can be doing something different again.
So when you hear that Canadian real estate is slowing down, heating up, prices are falling, prices are climbing... take a minute and ask where they're actually talking about.
If you're selling a home in Winnipeg, what matters is what's happening with homes like yours, in your area, in your price range, right now.
Same thing if you're buying.
National real estate news can be interesting, but I wouldn't make a decision about buying or selling your home based on a headline coming out of Toronto.
Pay attention to the local market. That's the one that actually matters.
